Windsor Castle

Where Buckingham Palace was "the office", Windsor Castle was "home" for Queen Elizabeth II. There were many special memories for Her Majesty, which started from childhood and continued throughout her 70-year reign.

The portrait sitting between Queen Elizabeth II and Basia Hamilton took place on 6th May 2022 in the Crimson Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Originally, when Queen Elizabeth II agreed to an exclusive/private portrait sitting with Basia Hamilton it was arranged that the original would be displayed at the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum in London, next to the 'Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother by Basia Hamilton' original painting.

When the completed 'Queen Elizabeth II Portrait by Basia Hamilton' painting was presented to Her Majesty, she liked it so much it was made known her preference would now be that it be displayed there at Windsor Castle.

Basia Hamilton gifted the original portrait to Queen Elizabeth II, which is on permanent display within the private apartments at Windsor Castle.

Interesting fact -
The Crimson Drawing Room at Windsor Castle is also where the famous Paddington Bear Platinum Jubilee sketch was filmed.
